Why do I need a Wedding Planner?
Weddings are complex events that typically mean a major commitment
of both time and money. Most couples enter the planning process
with little or no experience at staging large, multi-faceted
events. At the same time, it should be a time of happiness
and celebration. There is much to know – scheduling,
etiquette, budgeting, site and vendor selection and of course,
coordination on the day itself. Savvy couples who enlist
the help of a good Wedding Planner benefit from years of
experience, her multitude of connections to the industry
and professional management – leaving them to enjoy
the process and of course, the day itself. At Sassy Soirées,
we see each wedding as a joyous affair, and nothing makes
us happier than seeing relaxed, happy smiles on the faces
of the bride and groom.

What exactly does a Wedding Planner
do?
The role that a planner plays in a wedding is best related
to that of a movie director. In the production of a movie,
you have the stars (the Bride & Groom), the cast (wedding
party), the crew (vendors), set location (event
site), and
movie extras (guests). Without a good director (Wedding
Planner),
chaos would certainly ensue! Weddings, like a large-scale movie
production, are extremely complex to manage and have a lot
at stake financially.
A good Wedding Planner is able to identify their
client’s
needs and then works with them to make their vision come to
life. From helping to develop a theme, to finding the perfect
location, to sourcing and supervising vendors, a Wedding Planner
can guide the entire planning and execution of a wedding, helping
the couple and their families to truly relax and enjoy the
event. Hiring a wedding planner could be the best decision
you make when it comes to your wedding, besides saying, “I
do!”

What constitutes a person
to be “qualified” as
a Wedding Planner?
A qualified Wedding Planner has multiple levels of experience
in event planning. A qualified Wedding Planner has planned
many, many, many weddings for a variety of people from
all ethnic and religious backgrounds, not just their own
wedding. They know the business; they understand the internal
logistics of a facility’s workings and staff, as well as the external
factors presented by guests, vendors, and even Mother Nature.
Planners who have bought a wedding planning book from a bridal
association or have taken wedding planning 101 at the local
community college, are NOT qualified. While these books and
classes give great advice and guidance, NO book or classroom
alone can ever teach you how to be a wedding planner. The skills
and talents required must be learned, hands-on, from top-level
professionals.

But my reception facility already has an onsite
Wedding Planner, why would I need another one?
Many hotels and country clubs will offer up their onsite
planner. Typically, these people are sales managers
for the facility, which means that sales is their primary
concern. Once you’re
already on board, they will certainly want to keep you happy,
but the details of your wedding will not be their top priority.
Pulled in many directions, they will likely not have the time
to seek out unique vendors, or help you with other aspects
of your wedding including the invitation, etiquette, guest
list, etc. Plus, if your ceremony is not held at the reception
site, the onsite planner will not be involved in this critical
aspect of your big day. Another factor to consider is turnover.
Onsite planners tend to move around, so the person you started
working with may no longer be there come your wedding day.
